The 1st-person shooter that started it all. As the Allies hero, B.J. Blazkowicz, you run around 3D mazes and blast away Nazis until you can find your way out of their fortresses, prisons, and secret laboratories. It is a remake of the original top-down game Castle Wolfenstein.
Maybe it was the fact that people got to blow away Nazis. Maybe it was the sheer challenge of it all. For whatever reason, Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny, pioneered the first-person shooter genre and brought its legendary creators, id Software, worldwide notoriety and numerous awards. In fact, The Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame recognized Wolfenstein 3D as helping to shape the overall direction of the computer gaming industry.
EPISODE 1 - ESCAPE FROM CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN: You stand over the guard's body, grabbing franticly for his gun. You're not sure if the other guards heard his muffled scream. Deep in the belly of a Nazi dungeon, you've only a knife, a gun, and your wits to aid your escape. Just a few weeks ago, you were on a reconnaissance mission of extreme importance. You were to infiltrate the Nazi fortress, and find the plans for Operation Eisenfaust. Captured in your attempt, you were taken to their prison, and awaited your execution. Only you know where the plans are kept, and the Allies will face a great defeat if you don't escape! You must face the horrors of the prison keep known as Wolfenstein.
