Fire Trooper (German: Feuersoldat) is an armoured enemy in Wolfenstein: The New Order.
Description[]
- "Heavily armored elite infantry units carrying shotguns loaded with special ricochet shrapnel."
- ―COLLECTIBLES codex
History[]
By the end of Great War, the Third Reich became the absolute leader in military technology. Some research included making a new type of deep ocean scuba-diving suit for frogmen of the Kriegsmarine.
Utilizing the advanced self-contained breathing apparatus, combined with armour, Kriegsmarine frogmen and other Reich forces are protected against any high-risk situations.
Combat Tactics[]
Fire Troopers serve as heavily armoured infantry firing Schockhammer 60 loaded with ricochet shrapnel. It is best to stay far from them due to the shrapnel fire and use cover – it will block most of it.
The LaserKraftWerk's one full charge is usually enough to kill a Fire Trooper (although it depends on the targeted body part). Another effective option is to fire the Rocket Launcher of the Sturmgewehr 60 – two direct hits take them down.
At the ÜBER difficulty, Fire Troopers are extremely dangerous at close range and tank tremendous damage from kinetic weaponry – it is better to use energy and explosive weapons (for example, the Bombenschuss 60's plasma).
Strengths[]
- Fire Troopers are deadly at close range due to SH 60 shrapnel fire.
- They can dual-wield, doubling their firepower – can either be initially encountered dual wielding (rarely) or they pick up an SH 60 from the ground.
- Fire Troopers' thick armour makes them take more damage than regular enemies.
Weaknesses[]
- Fire Trooper's suit comes with two compressed air tanks on the back, which explode after taking too much damage. It may not kill the Fire Trooper outright, but it will stun him and deal significant damage.
- They are vulnerable to headshot fire.
Trivia[]
- Despite their name, Unlike Flamer Soldier, Fire Troopers has Shotgunner or Shock Trooper; do not use flamethrowers.
- As navy frogmen, they would be part of the K-Verbände – a special forces unit that carries out naval sabotage and assault operations.
- The use of shotgun-armed troops by the Wehrmacht seems relatively unlikely, as, throughout both World wars, the Germans (like most European armies) loathed shotguns and their wide use on the battlefield (apart from specific cases like with the M30 Luftwaffe Drilling), seeing them as inhumane weapons. Submachine guns were the preferred weapon for close combat. However, with the Wehrmacht presumably answering to the SS in the MachineGames' Wolfenstein series, this moral principle likely had been abolished.
